How to Fill-in Eyebrows with Make-up

Posted on: August 18, 2011

This information is for anyone wishing to enhance their appearance by filling in their eyebrows with make up. This will give definition to your face and create a polished look.www.makeupsense.com/en/eyes/eyebrows/

There are many ways to do this, it is a matter finding what you feel most comfortable with. Many people feel grooming your eyebrows first is best, although it is not necessary. In order to begin the process you will need to gather the proper implements. You may choose between either powder and a brush to apply it with, or an eyebrow pencil of your choice. The eyebrow brush that seems so work best is a small (about 1/4 inch in diameter), angled, soft, cosmetic brush; you could also use a brush from an arts and crafts store which may be more cost effective. If you would rather try the eyebrow pencil you will want to chose one in the proper color with soft lead so that it will blend easily. As for color, a general rule of thumb is to choose a color two shades lighter than your hair color, unless you are blond or gray, in that case you will want to choose a color of powder or pencil two shades darker. This will keep your face looking natural and not harsh. It is also suggested one never use black make up for the eyebrow as it creates an undesirable, overly dramatic look. Other implements that are optional are an eyebrow brush/lash-comb combo. Some prefer an old mascara wand that has been cleaned and dried. You will also want to understand the composition of your eyebrow and work with it's natural shape for best results. It would be wise to watch someone do this before you try it. Once you have gathered these things and have an understanding of the composition of your eyebrow, you are ready to begin.

Step 1: Getting It Together And Measuring

Before you begin to fill in your eyebrow with make up it is a good idea to groom them. This is my favorite video tutorial on how to do that. She also fills in her eyebrow with make up at the end. I don't recall her brushing her eyebrows in this video, but that is something you will want to do as well. So what you will need to do if you choose to use this technique is gather, ice, a white eye pencil, tweezers and a small make up mirror, brow powder and the brush of your choice for application. I am also suggesting brushing or combing out your eyebrows before doing this technique, either with an old mascara wand, lash comb or eyebrow brush, even a baby toothbrush will work, it's totally up to you. You might also choose to use only parts of this technique, for example, keep the grooming elements shown here, but use an eyebrow pencil instead. This video also offers an eyebrow chart which shows the length, curve or arch, and end point, of the eyebrow, these are guidelines along which you will want to work to achieve the best results for your grooming and filling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PugziVUikEg

This is what you will need to do to measure the eyebrow, you can use your brush or eyebrow pencil to measure with.

Hold a pen parallel to your nose, and level with the inner corner of the eye, to work out where the brow should begin. If your eyes are close together, make the gap between the brows wider. If your eyes are far apart, don't groom the start line of the brow so that they are closer together. Mark the correct point with a dot.

Working out the curve of the eyebrow You can work out where the highest point of the curve/arch should be by holding a ruler from the edge of the nostril past the outer edge of the iris (the colored part of the eye) and up to the eyebrow. Mark the spot with a dot.http://www.rte.ie/tv/theafternoonshow/2007/1113/eyebrows1311.html

Step 2: Filling in the Brows

So now you are ready to begin filling in your eyebrows with make up.

  1. Take your brush or pencil and begin in the center of the arch of your eyebrow, working up and out as you go.
  2. Next, paying attention to your start point, begin at the bottom of the front of the brow working up out and towards the arch.
  3. Take a close look at what you've done, making sure you have filled all areas completely and there are no glaring gaps.

Step 3: If At First You Don't Suceed Try, Try, Again!

If you do not get the desired results from your first try, wash it off and try again. It may take a few times to get it right. If you need to, watch one particular video several times. Here are a few links to some videos that may help you.
